Component Packaging is the first company to break ground in Joplin's new, 600 acre Crossroads Center Distribution and Business Park. At a ceremony today (Wed. 7-28), the local firm began construction on a new 20,000 sq. ft. facility. The packaging and distribution facility will be completed by the end of this year.

Component Packaging manufactures hardware accessory packs, which includes a process of automated and hand bagging and check-weight inspections of screws, bolts and other assembly type fasteners. The company serves customers in Colorado, Tennessee, Kansas and Missouri. Area customers include Premdor Entry Systems in Pittsburg, Kansas and the Neosho, Missouri facility of Sunbeam Outdoor Products.

The nine-year old firm operated in other facilities in Kansas and Missouri before choosing Crossroads Center for its headquarters and production facility. "We were attracted to Crossroads because of its easy transportation access to our major customers. In addition Crossroads is being developed with an emphasis on green space and strong building requirements to keep the area attractive", noted co-owners Marshall and Vicki Spurrier. The Spurriers stressed their belief that the park will help their firm present a progressive image to their national client base.

The company currently employs 22 people full and part-time.
